Wearing your Wasatch Weight Vest: Put your weighted vest on and take the vest off: Holding the weight vest in your hands feels a lot heavier than when it is on your body. Use good posture positioning when holding the vest and avoid bending forward as you hold or carry your vest. Keep the vest close to your body as you slide each arm through the armholes. Zip up the vest. Your vest should fit snug.
Start by putting one weight in a back pocket. If you add one more weight, put this in a front pocket. Start by wearing the vest for 10-15 minutes a day and gradually increase the time and activities that you wear it. You should not feel pain during or after wearing your vest.
Progressively add weight to your vest; adding weight too quickly can increase your risk of injury. Distribute the weights evenly around your body. Adding weight gradually will also help your body get used to the added weight and put less stress on your joints. The weight that you carry should not alter your walking pattern or body movements.
Progressing your weighted vest program: Every 2-3 weeks, add 1 more weight. Spread the weights around your torso as evenly as possible. Keep adding one weight every 2-3 weeks. After 6-8 weeks, drop the weight back to 3-4 pounds. Progress gradually, adding one weight each week for 6-8 weeks.
